How to keep your skin Olympic-level fit

Michael-klim

Former Olympian gold medallist and record holder Michael Klim may have retired a while ago, but the man has managed to stop the clock. The well-preserved 39-year-old has his own line of skincare products, Milk & Co, and parted with his best skincare advice during a recent chat with GQ.

Grooming mistakes most men are guilty of:

Most guys forget to wash their face right after a workout or some other physical activity, and that can cause build-up.

Morning grooming rituals

Most guys want to be out of their bathroom in 3 minutes. Wash, moisturise and protect — three steps that are essential for skin maintenance.

The essential ingredient in any skincare product

SPF factor is the best anti-aging ingredient in any skin product. More sunscreen is the only thing that can prevent the visible damage the sun does. I wish I had been a bit more sun-smart.

Getting the most out of your products

What I try and do is minimise the time I spend on grooming in the bathroom. Most of the products in theMilk & Co range are multi-functional. I think men want to minimise the steps, so try and get, for example, a body wash that doubles as a moisturiser.

Best grooming hack

I carry wet wipes around with me. Men’s skin is about 30% oiler than women’s and so needs that extra care.

Lifestyle factors influencing skin condition

Well, there are four things that I try to take care of:

Exercise: try and go for four structured sessions a week and the rest can be incidental (like chasing your kids around).

Sleep: minimum eight hours, tough to get in but so underrated

Diet: portion control, you have to look after your diet for atleast 46 weeks out of the year. The rest are holidays.

Managing stress: stress takes a pretty big toll on you. Working out can also help manage stress.

Add these grooming saviours to your skincare routine.
